Listening the Other / Other Listening

Field research documentation in Skopje, North Macedonia

The research project embraces decolonial listening to the “Other”, that is, to different, subjective, less heard citizens’ perspectives on the 2001 events, seen through the lens of ethnic othering and discrimination. The employed field research methodology relies on oral history. The main aim is to elicit and collect stories, memories, and experiences from participants in the war conflict, citizens from different generations and occupations, and with different educational, religious and ethic background. The focus is on how citizens talk about the Other, how their images of the Other are formed, how they experience and feel about the time before and after the 2001 events, what is common in their narratives and where do their narratives diverge.

The project is supported by the Culture Moves Europe – Individual Mobility of Artists and Cultural Professionals, a project funded by the European Union, in cooperation with Kontrapunkt Skopje and kindly supported by ZFD Forum Ziviler Friedensdienst Skopje.

The work was produced with the financial assistance of the European Union. The views expressed herein can in no way be taken to reflect the official opinion of the European Union.
